KON TUM – Families and businesses in Tu Mo Rong district dug up quality Ngoc Linh ginseng roots to compete, the first prize was 250 grams, selling for 250 million VND.($1=24,000 VND)
On February 6, at Tu Mo Rong District Center, the District People’s Committee held the “First Ngoc Linh Ginseng Competition in 2023”. Representatives of 8 individuals, cooperatives and businesses brought ginseng to the contest.
This is an activity in the program Ngoc Linh Ginseng Fair in Tu Mo Rong district – the locality with the largest Ngoc Linh ginseng growing area in Kon Tum province.
Mr. A Tuong and his son brought three 10-year-old ginseng roots to the competition. Ginseng roots are placed in a basket, covered with green moss to keep the plants moist.
After the dormant period (the growth cycle of the plant), from the beginning of the year the plant begins to sprout, flower, and result, the owner keeps it in a plastic jar and keeps it moist.
Passing 25 km to the district center, Mr. A Chung (42 years old) brought three ginseng plants over 10 years old to compete. “The first time I attend, I hope to win a high prize to guide the technique of growing Ngoc Linh ginseng of the Xo Dang people in Mang Ri commune,” said Mr. Chung.
At the contest, individuals and organizations have 5-10 minutes to explain about ginseng roots, origin, shape and age.
Ginseng weighing 250 grams of Ngoc Linh Ginseng Company over 20 years of age, was awarded the first prize by the organizers, and successfully auctioned 250 million VND. The competition also has two-second prizes, three third prizes and four consolation prizes. A part of the auction proceeds will be donated to the Fund for Study Promotion and the Poor in the Tu Mo Rong district.
The District People’s Committee invites the winning units to guide local people on the process of growing large, beautiful, and quality ginseng.

The program took place from February 6 to 9 with many activities such as potential seminars and solutions for tourism development in Tu Mo Rong district; market for ginseng and medicinal herbs; Work festival day; the gong festival of the Xo Dang ethnic group; cuisine; hot air balloon festival flying to the great thousand; Meeting with village elders, village chiefs, people of typical prestige.

The whole district of Tu Mo Rong currently grows more than 1,700 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng. Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Chairman of the Tu Mo Rong District People’s Committee, said that the locality has many beautiful forests, waterfalls, and the unique culture of gongs and cuisine of 95% of the people in the area.
This place also owns a unique tourism product, which is a tour to visit the largest Ngoc Linh Ginseng garden in the world. Thanks to this tourism activity, people have been able to sell ginseng at a high price, while tourists visit the place where ginseng is grown and buy the real goods with their own hands.
